Salt Lake City, UT – May 7th, 2019 – Kevin T. Foley MD, a prominent neurosurgeon, inventor, entrepreneur and investor, joins the board of nView medical, a Salt Lake City-based startup that develops 3D imaging technology for surgery.

nView medical develops technology to provide 3D imaging in surgery. The company uses AI image creation algorithms that merge prior information with real-time data gathered during surgery to reduce imaging time and to minimize x-ray radiation.

“Since we first met Dr. Foley we realized we shared the same passion for innovation and had a common vision for image guidance in surgery: for new solutions to be adopted and to disrupt the space they had to be efficient, easy to use and deployable to a wider range of customer segments”, said Cristian Atria, Founder and CEO at nView medical. “Dr. Foley is recognized as the father of navigation in spine, we are thrilled to have him join our board. I believe that his clinical and business perspective will be of great strategic value as we continue our clinical research and enter the market. We are excited to see Dr. Foley join our mission to make surgery safer, faster and consistently accurate.”

Kevin Foley, MD, FAANS, is a tenured professor of neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and biomedical engineering at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tenn. He is the chairman of the board of Semmes-Murphey Clinic, director of the spine fellowship program for the University of Tennessee Department of Neurosurgery and chairman of the board and medical director for the Medical Education & Research Institute. In addition to a full-time spine surgery practice, he is actively involved in medical device development and research in minimally invasive spine surgery, disc regeneration and clinical outcomes. Dr. Foley has been granted more than 150 patents by the USPTO and invented many of the tools and techniques that have enabled modern minimally invasive spine surgery. He was recently awarded the AANS Cushing Award for Technical Excellence and Innovation in Neurosurgery.

“I am delighted to join the nView team and look forward to helping them advance the field of intraoperative imaging.  I believe that nView’s technology will improve image-guided surgical navigation”, said Dr. Kevin T. Foley.
